PRIMARY PURPOSE

Under the directions of the Senior Manager of Supply Chain and with safety, efficiency, and customer service a priority, the Medical Equipment Distribution Technician is responsible for the distribution, storage and cleaning of medical equipment. Duties include rounding, collecting, and management of assigned patient medical equipment. Responds to all pages and phone requests in a timely manner, restocking of supplies and equipment throughout hospital and clinics, delivering equipment between facilities, placing rental orders and picking up orders. Demonstrates professionalism with integrity in all interactions with customers and staff.

 

MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS

 

Education:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

 

Experience:

  • Minimum three (3) years in supply chain operations, with focus on par replenishment and inventory management.

 

Equivalent Education and/or Experience:

  • May have an equivalent combination of education and experience in lieu of specific education and/or experience as stated above.

 

Certification/Registration/Licensure:

  • None

 

Skills or Special Abilities:

  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, EPIC and Lawson.
  • Experience in scanning/barcoding using RFID & RTLS Systems.
  • Proficient math skills and logical reasoning.
  • Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Prioritize equipment delivery for patient care.
  • Effectively manage multiple Epic orders and assess work activities to allot equipment appropriately within schedule timeline.
  • Able to establish and maintain long-term customer relationships, build trust and respect by consistently meeting and exceeding expectations.
  • Demonstrate excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills.

 

Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for overseeing the equipment needs of patient care areas ensuring equipment is available for the treatment of the patient and support clinical areas with on demand requisitions via computer generated requests.

2. Manage floor stock par levels ensuring equipment is available when needed and replenishment is conducted in a timely manner based on inventory count associated with par levels.

3. Process Epic orders and follow established departmental procedures to accurately verify orders with patient qualifications.

4. Clean, deliver and perform troubleshooting techniques on medical equipment according to manufacturer and Infection Prevention policies/procedures.

5. Perform daily rounding functions of all clinical units to ensure adequate availability of equipment to mitigate delays and fragmented care.

6. Tag new equipment with RTLS/RFID to establish tracking capabilities of equipment inventory and replace/update asset tags as required on medical devices

7. Collect data using handheld scanners and wireless devices

8. Track assets for unique accountability and tracking needs of organization

9. Manage equipment inventory through scanning of equipment during pick-up/return

10. Work with Clinical Engineers to validate equipment testing and perform quality checks for out of service and expired safety inspections.

11. Perform data entry and operate computer programs associated with contracted vendors to order and replenish equipment inventory.

12. Analyze and make decisions to validate bed orders in managing bed supply for patient care throughout the hospital.

13. Generate bed and medical equipment orders using computer system to process bed rentals charges based on admission, transfers and discharges.

14. Display technical proficiency in performing quality checks, updates and functionality inspections of all assigned medical devices.

15. Contribute to exceptional customer satisfaction by responding to orders from customers (physicians, nurses, unit clerks and other clinical staff) regarding equipment information, availability and expected pick-up and delivery timeframe.

16. Work effectively as a team member; adapts to changes in procedures, equipment and schedules to meet the needs of patient care.

17. Demonstrate the ability to resolve customer issues and complaints. Uses exceptional oral and written communication when interacting with the hospital staff.

18. Adhere to established policies addressing the confidentiality of patient information to ensure HIPAA Compliance.

19. Effectively use ERP system and available technologies to better perform tasks, and to improve services and outcomes.

20. Maintain skills and knowledge at the competency level required for the position and assist with training of personnel by sharing expertise and knowledge.

21. Provide training to new employees, as assigned.

22. Communicate and interact with user-department personnel to ensure needs are met, report issues or concerns not being address adequately.

23. Perform end of shift coordination to communicate any potential issues to arriving shifts as well as management and responds to email correspondence on a daily basis.

24. Maintain proper security and good housekeeping of work area and the equipment inventory.

25. Perform related duties or participate in special projects as assigned or as situation dictates.
